The reason that people fail to live out their dreams or be genuinely happy can be summed up in one word. Fear.
There are so many fears out there. Fear of insects, fear of flying, and the list goes on and on.
I’m sure you’ve heard the expression that “there’s nothing to fear but fear itself.” But is it possible to get over your fear…no matter what it is? How can you learn to overcome the one obstacle that holds you back from the life of your dreams?
According to thinksimplenow.com, there are three keys that can help you make fear a thing of the past. I’m going to share those with you here.
Be More Objective and Less Emotional
To be fair, fear does have its purpose. If you have what you think is a bad experience, your mind records it as “bad” and something never to be experienced again. The experience is stored away in your brain as something “bad” or to be afraid of. Fear keeps you safe by holding you back from experiencing “bad” things over and over again.
The problem with this is that the bad thing (or newly developed fear) is based on your perception of the event. If you can stand back and look at things based on truth and facts instead of emotion, you can start to melt away the fear.
Fear can paralyse you if you let it. It can singlehandedly destroy any chance you have of achieving your life goals.
Fear makes you think you’re playing it safe and being rational. But, when you really look at the situation and ask some different questions, you may find that you’re making more emotional than rational decisions.
Ask yourself rational questions like, “What’s the worst that thing that could happen if things didn’t work out?” “What else can I do or try to make this work out?”
A lot of times, you spend so much time and energy worrying about something. If what you were worried about actually happens, it’s usually not nearly as bad as the scenario pictured in your mind. Fear likes to play that game.
The trick is to be able to go forward on the path to what you want without letting fear stop you.
A Strong Belief in Yourself
You really need to believe – without a shadow of a doubt – that you are fully capable of achieving your goals. Realistic goals that are possible for you to meet by working diligently, educating yourself or whatever you can do to move closer to your dream.
If you have any doubts about your ability to achieve your goal, it will spread like wildfire and stop you in your tracks.
Don’t let doubt creep into your thoughts even for a minute. Keep a positive mindset and develop a deep, unsinkable faith in your abilities to accomplish what you set out to do.
Be Flexible with the Outcome
One of the biggest fears out there is the fear of failure. Because you don’t know what the future holds, or whether or not something will work out, fear kicks in.
Sure, it’s scary to put yourself out there and be willing to run the risk of not being successful at what you’ve set out to do. However, the benefits you get from even trying to go for your goals far outweigh the possibility of failing.
You can actually learn so much more from failed attempts at anything. When you make mistakes, you tend to remember what to do to avoid making the same mistakes in the future. You can give anything another shot with your knowledge of what didn’t work, so you get closer to finding what will work.
Learning to live in the present and do your best in that moment will move you where you’re supposed to go.
You can put fear in its place by continuing to move forward, even with baby steps. Learning how to minimise the grip fear may have on you can propel you towards success and happiness faster than anything else.
